VitalStim Therapy
|
VitalStim Therapy
is a safe and effective treatment for patients suffering
with difficulty swallowing or dysphasia. VitalStim Therapy
is a non-invasive, external electrical stimulation therapy.
The therapy uses specifically designed electrodes applied to
the muscles of the throat to promote proper swallowing.
Dysphasia
is defined as difficulty with swallowing. It can occur as a
result of a stroke or other neurological disease, normal
aging or after a long period of inactivity.
VitalStim
Therapy is designed to help swallowing through the use of
Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES). Electrical
stimulation is used to aid muscle strengthening to
rehabilitate the swallow. The sensory stimulation that is
provided also helps muscle recruitment and swallowing
function.

| Diathermy |
In diathermy, high-frequency electrical currents are used to heat deep muscular tissues. The heat increases blood flow, speeding up recovery. Diathermy can be used to treat arthritis and other conditions involving stiff, painful joints.
Diathermy involves heating deep muscular tissues. When heat is applied to the painful area, cellular metabolism speeds up and blood flow increases. The increased metabolism and circulation accelerates tissue repair. The heat helps the tissues relax and stretch, thus alleviating stiffness. Heat also reduces nerve fiber sensitivity, increasing the patient's pain threshold. |
| E-Stim Therapy |
E-Stim is an integrated pain therapy used to prevent or reduce muscle atrophy, the weakening and loss of muscle bulk and tone, which is usually experienced after surgery or injuries. E-Stim can provide pain relief, improve range and motion and releases fascia.
E-Stim is also used as a means of increasing blood flow to muscles, increasing range of movement, muscle strength and enhancing muscle endurance. It is also used for pain management in muscle related pain, such as spastic, sore or tight muscles. |
| Ultrasound Therapy |
Treatment by ultrasound is used particularly for soft tissue injuries but also for a variety of more chronic conditions, with a view to promoting healing and relieving pain.
Ultrasound Treatment helps to relieve pain and inflammation, and increases range of motion in some instances. It also accelerates the healing process, and the vibrations also heat deep tissues and relieve pain. |
